DIY Bread Bag

I love making bread (though I'm terrible at it!) and wanted a zero-waste way to store it. I chose a linen fabric, since it's breathable. The embroidery file is my own doing, though I used a pattern for the wheat and therefore cannot share the file.  You can buy it here.

I cut the body of my bag to be 20"x18" and the tie to be 15"x2.25".

I embroidered the front middle of the body before I sewed up the back and then the bottom, placing the back seam in the middle so that the embroidery is in the middle of the front (I used a serger for both seams).

I boxed the corners by folding the bottom of the bag so that it forms two triangles, folded the top triangle up, and then marked the flat edge where the two points meet when folded by in. I sew serged those marked edges.

Then I serged the open end of the bag and hemmed it at 1/4".

The tie is simple to make: fold the piece in half and half again with the raw edges inside. To finish the ends, unfold the end of the piece and fold in the edge by 1/4" and refold the piece. Then close the edge at 1/8".

To attach the closure, place the middle of the tie over the back seam below the hem line. Sew over the seam a few times to secure it.

That's it!
